I thought that my weight loss (26 lbs lost since August) was causing my hair loss but I began taking vitamins and its still falling out. I’m pretty sure that its not stress related, hormonal or related to any medication that I take. It’s coming out by the handful and its long strands and not breakage. Luckily I have extremely thick hair so the loss hasn’t been noticeable yet but I need a remedy soon. What else could be causing my hair loss?

Well the weight loss could definitely have triggered the hair loss and vitamins do not replace the things you need in your body to get you healthy again, you have to eat well. Also stress can cause this.

It could be your shampoo, anything that contains alcohol can dry it out and cause it to fall out. Consult a hairdresser, I did when I thought mine was, you don’t need an appointment just say you have a question at the desk and one comes out to look real quick.
Also be sure it’s falling out more than usual. I have thick hair too, but as my hair got long I thought it was falling out, but my hair dresser told me that because my hair is so thick i lose more hair than a usual person, the average human loses 100 strands of hair a day. It’s only more noticeable because it’s longer.
Good luck!
And don’t worry, you probably DON’T have cancer. You lose hair from the treatment, not the disease. Just notify your doctor and you should be fine.

You may have alopecia, anemia, vitamin or mineral deficiencies or any number of other things. I might add, it might not be anything but normal. Hair grows to a maximum length, dictated by your own genes, and then it falls out, it is possible that this is what is going on, too.
See your doctor; only he/she can know for sure.

wow all these people are saying cancer, cancer doesnt make your hair fallout, the CHEMO does, so dont freak out.
even thou you took vitamins, you may have been taking the wrong ones, so a visit to the doctor might be smart
for now, dont mess with your hair too much and dont put it up in a pont tail or add any additional stress to your hair [wear a beanie?]
hope i helped

you know you loose hair every seven years of your life more than average?!? meaning like if you’re seven you loose a lot of hair that year.. and liek a lot.. then 14 then 21 and so on// it used to happen to me a lot… and all these people are ignorant… people loose hair when they get their quimiotherapy done not when you actually have cancer.. the drug used in quimo makes your hair fall out…
but my best bet would be.. change your shampoo… change to a healthier nutrition and see a nutritionist or a doctor… they can probably help you out more than us

Visit your doctor so you can at least determine (or rule out) the cause of your hair loss, whether it be stress, diet, etc. You could also ask about being evaluated for alopecia, a condition that causes hair loss from many parts of the body.

how did u lose weight? did u take pills or something? could be that, are u eating properly? and are u sure its not hormonal? If your thyroid gland is overactive or underactive, your hair may fall out. or maybe your hormones are out of balance!! try seeing a doc so they can prescribe something!!

Okay this may be serious or normal. Call a doctor and ask him/her. It could be stress, because of fast weight-loss (maybe but not sure), or even more serious things like cancer. Please take some advice from here and go to see a doctor ASAP.
