Hi there. What you are suffering from is traction alopecia. Its very similar toballerinas haiurline when they have been wearing ponytails too tight. The stress on the hair has literally caused it to fall out and temporarily stop growing there.
My advice is to prevent any kind of stress to your hair. Especially as yo are growing out a perm, which has already weakened your hair. Massage the area of traction alopecia for 5 minutes everyday to get the blood flowing to the follicle which helps oxygen travel to the hair promoting hair growth. Massage is definatley the best thing you can do.
Individual braids would probably make it worse.
Hope this helps.

Yes, smalll braids will thin out your hair even more because it puts stress on your hair and causes it to fall out and break. Maybe go to a doctor because I don’t think it is normal to get bald spots on yor head…especially if you are a young female. I always wear my hair in a pony tail and I have never had a bald spot.

yes..individual braids will most certainly make it worse…just leave it alone!! you arent losing hair because of pony tails…its either heridtary baldness starting…or you have too many hormones and you are going to lose your hair. no matter what you do…if you have started to lose your hair…most of it will follow – its how you cope with that fact is the main thing…p.s. – you can NOT get the hair back!! – sorry!
