UM no. Any skin issue should be worked up. Bald patches are not normal. The skin issue needs to be worked up to rule out demodex (a type of mange mite), fungal and bacterial infection. You might want to find a competent vet.

Getting bald patches could be a sign of red mange. Unless treated, it will continually get worse. It can be treated at your vet, but it is expensive and usually doesn’t work very well. I have had 2 AST’s and both got red mange. I went to my local feed store and got a cream that you put on the bare spots. If it is red mange, you have to be dedicated to putting the cream on. Once cured it will not come back. It will not harm your puppy if it is not red mange. You didn’t mention what your puppies skin looked like. If it just has bare spots without its skin being red or irritated it could be from scratching or biting itself. I would worry about any bald spot. Loosing hair at 12 weeks old is not normal. Have it checked out by a good vet. Good luck.

Its not normal for any animal to just get bald patches. It is probably ‘hot spots’ which is ver Go to a pet supply store and get a spray for hot spots, spray the bald patches. You should see improvement in just a few days.
**give the pup a warm bath using a gentle oatmeal shampoo and then spray the patches when he is dry. He will likely groom himself or lay down etc so respray a couple of times a day.
Have a great day! Good luck with your new puppy!

Well if it is “demodex” a type of mange seen sometimes in puppies.. It is not uncommon, but really not normal. Unfortunaly in some breeds it is very common.http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?…
In many dogs it is somthing that can happen and resolve by itself or can be a more serious issue.
Staffies and Pits are commonly affected.. unfortunaly far to many breeders go with the “normal” for these puppies.. when frankly breeding a dog that has any history of a immune issue (which Demodex is) should be avoided. But unfortunaly most breeders do not reaserch their dogs pedigrees enough, or make note of such things like this, or things like allergies and health.. so why so many dogs suffer with these issues..

If your dogs shedding leads to bald spots you should seek help from your veterinarian as soon as possible. All severe shedding conditions are either parasitic or non-parasitic. Parasitic means caused by parasites such as mites or fleas. Non-parasitic means conditions created by a hormonal imbalance and or poor diet, which can easily be treated with vitamins and a more controlled diet.

mayby your dog has allipechia ( sorry for spelling :/) but when my dog was a puppy he used to lose his fur at certain times of year in quite large pathces . it didnt hurt him in anyway and it wasn paracites or mange. it was just something that haooend to him. mayby your god has that? in the end my dog grew out of it and hes absoulutly fine now
. if she does have allipechia then just make sure your get her a coat for the winter and put sun cream on her in the summer .. ( my dog was in the winter and he is a snauzzer )
so dont worry yourself if it doesnt grow back to much, but allways ask yuor vet of course. if he still says its normal in a long time…. get a new vet !
hope this helps

No, that is not normal and it sounds like your little puppy might have a serious skin problem. You need to get this checked out by a vet ASAP. No dog (young or old) should have bald patches.

Did your vet really tell you this? NEW VET- fast!!
Bald patches are usually caused by something – and maybe mange!! Did he do a skin scrape to see if there were any mites there?
Without seeing these bald patches, I’d say this vet is wrong.

It’s not normal for any breed of dog to suddenly start loosing hair & having bald patches.
If a Vet really told you that I’d find another Vet asap. They clearly don’t know what they are talking about.

Your vet told you it was normal? I doubt it. If that’s true, you need another vet
