It is genetic, but can also be caused by hormonal imbalance, trauma or illness.
Even if hair loss isn’t prevalent in your families looks, it does no t mean the gene hasn’t been passed to you.

Hereditary usually means that you will be more predisposed to having that issue. I believe that baldness comes from the mother’s side of the family. If mother’s father was bald then you have a better than average chance at being bald. It doesn’t mean that you WILL be bald.

dont worry im also 23 and in the same boat as you are but I wouldnt worry about it to much my sister is is 30 and my wife is 22 and every time i get in the shower after either one of them the drain is clogged with their hair…… this probably just happens to all of us so you shouldnt worry about it, its just a part of life.

Sometimes it is heredity. Sometimes it can be caused by anemia. Sometimes medicine.
If your is hereditary you can be a throw back to grandfathers, great grandfathers etc. Most of your DNA is Autosomal and it comes from both parents but I have found out not necessarily 50-50. Also I have found out not all siblilngs Autosomal results will be the same. Genealogy and genetics are not really the same thing. We are interested in genetics with genealogy DNA. You can go back under Science and Mathematics and maybe under biology or one of the subcategories regarding medicine and maybe get better replies.
In genealogy we trace ancestry with documents.
