Should I Let My Cat Lick Her Wound? Should It Be Going Bald Around The Area?
Posted by: in Hair Loss Tipswe got back recently to find our cat limping along looking sore. We thought it may be her leg but now she has licked away a area of fur to reveal a square shaped wound. We have no idea how she got it and now she is continuously licking it. Should i let her lick it or get her a collar to stop it? im not sure if it will help the wound heal or not. isnt a cat tongue supposed to have natural anti septic? its getting balder and balder around the area so really worried

It’s advantageous for her to lose hair around the wound, because hair won’t be getting into the wound to carry infection in. If you had taken her to the vet, they would have shaved the area. At least call the vet with any observations that you have about the wound. They’ll ask you the right questions, and you can both decide whether a trip to vet is necessary.

Awhile back my cat got a bad scratch from a fight with another cat. The more she licked it, the worse it got. She seemed like it hurt her too. We took her to the vet and the he put one of those lamp shade – looking collar thingys around her neck to keep her from licking it. He warned us not to let her lick it anymore until it healed.

a cats tongue is barbed so it could be doing damage to her leg, best to take her to the vet for treatment, they will probably put a collar on if its serious enough

its fine for her to lick it, its good for it… But I would probably take her to a vet to hve them examine it, it might need some special treatment in that case they might have you put a collar on, but for now I would just let her… please get her to a vet though

Take her to the Vet. A cats skin can close quickly, making it look like it is healing from the outside, but it’s still festering inside. Infection is nasty & quick, & can spread thru her body. Better safe than sorry.

I would take her to the vets to get it looked at. Try not to let her lick it as she may infect it.

yeh thats true the cat is just cleaning the wound. cats and dogs mouths are cleaner than our belive it or not, but if its going bald and looks sore i suggest maybe the vets maybe it will need a antibiotic shot.
