I noticed some patchy hair loss in my 2 1/2 yr old fixed female black lab. The hair loss is above her right hip. Looking at her, you can tell patches of hair are missing on getting closer the hair has thinned in that area it seems that her skin is dry there are scales as well. I feel that her coat has gotten dry and brittle as well. In my opinion she hasnt always had the greatest of coats anyway.
I havent seen her itching or chewing on that spot. I have seen a small decrease in her energy level, but she is always willing to play fetch she’s quite anal about it actually. Ive noticed a change in her demeanor shes become a bit timid.
Ive seen a decrease in her appetite. She isnt taking her treats, and she is always the last to finish her dinner, normally, she is the first.
It goes without saying that I will be seeing the vet about her condition. We havent changed diet or havent started her on anything new. She did get a bath about 3 wks ago, with the same ole shampoo we always use.

Talk to your vet about all of this. Maybe ask about changing her diet, if she doesnt have a great coat. She might have a food allergy. But Talk to the vet.

It might be a skin allergy. She might also be bored so she licks the spot, causing hair loss. Take her to your vet- he might give you a special shampoo/lotion to use to help the thinning or help the allergy.
The allergy could also just be from grass- your dog is young still, and the grass could irritatle her skin.

Its very possible that she has an allergy to something.
My dog goes through the same thing from time to time. Ask the vet.
All I have to do is give her 1 Benedryll in some cheese from time to time and she’s fine.
The seasons changing can cause allergies.
Talk with the vet, but I’m sure that she’ll be o.k.!…

Fleas……or just dry skin…..the vet can give her a shot that will stop the itching
Sometimes dog’s develop a “hot spot” and they just wont leave it alone…….like I already said…a vet can give her a shot that will stop the itching.
