Cat Has A Minor Cut Above Her Left Eye And A Little Hair Loss?
Posted by: in Hair Loss Causesmy cat got a minor wound a little above her left eye a couple of days ago. Today when i got home i noticed it was bleeding a bit and theres a bit of hair loss just around the wound. I cleaned it up with some water. Shes still just as active, maybe a little more irritated than usual but it’s probably because she’s in heat. (yes, im getting her spayed soon). Im also gonna take her to the vet to get the wound checked out. But i wanted to know if anyone knows if hair loss around a minor wound is usual or is it something to be really worried about. I’ve been freaking out about it.. does anyone know anything about it or what i should do about the wound? It doesnt bleed constantly. maybe she scratches it cause shes been itching herself more than usual recently too but I dont want to put on the flea medication if she doesnt have fleas. So im gonna get her checked out for that too at the vet. any suggestions?

It is best to take these problems to the Vet and here is why. Both cats and dogs have a different kine of skin than humans. We have a tight skin with a layer of fat underneath; cats and dogs have very loose skin that can mover around easily. The reason this is significant is that on humans even a small infection that swells is noticeable but not so on cats or dogs. They can sometimes have an abscess or other serious infection that to the outside only looks like a minor cut.
You did not state if your cat is an outdoor cat. If so, all the more reason. She could have been injured in a tussle with another animal. You certainly do not want to take chances with a wound close to the eye. If there is a hidden infection it can spread to the eye or even the brain through the eye socket.

You need to take the cat to the vet tomorrow. She could get an infection in the wound and get very sick from it. The hair loss is something the vet needs to look and determine the cause. Flea infection can cause itching skin and a type of dermatitis that makes the hair fall out. Flea medication like frontline or revolution should be applied each month to stop the cat from every getting fleas to begin with. Stop waiting around and take the cat to the vet.

The hair loss and minor bleeding is probably from her licking her paw and rubbing it over the wound to clean it. Have you noticed her doing that?
I wouldn’t worry about it, especially since you’re going to vet, unless you see it getting swollen or looking infected.

it depends on whats caused the wound to your cat..or maybe the cat has scratched herself cause the hair loss to it..check its not a bite from another cat..or if the cats was itching(not necessarily fleas.0she could just have had a itch, like we get and drive us mad and the urge to scratch..try bathing with a little warm salted water.and if worse in morning then by all means take her to the vets, for hers and your peace of mind.

Until your vet opens tomorrow it would not hurt to put a little antibiotic ointment on the cut, just be sure it’s a little bit and don’t get it IN her eye. And it could be due to scratching if she has fleas, but I think she will be fine but get her checked out soon. And I always owe my vet money as I take mine in for every little thing too, and I used to work for a vet so I know the antibiotic ointment will not hurt her.
