Admit it. There was a point in your life when you did show some concern over whether you were eventually going to lose your hair like a lot of other guys you know. You may even already be showing some signs of male hair loss. Don’t panic, your condition is probably normal and non-life threatening but you don’t necessarily have to live with it.

Male Pattern Baldness

There are several types of hair loss conditions. However, it has been discovered that around 95% of hair loss conditions are categorized under androgenetic alopecia. We often think that male hair loss begins when a man reaches adulthood. It is possible however for some to begin having the condition during the teen years. The first sign of thinning and male hair loss is often observed in the temple areas. In time though, true male hair loss may eventually result in complete bald areas typically on the crown or top of the head.

Cause

From the term androgenetic alone, we can see that it comes from “andro” which means hormones and “genetic” which means genes. This means that most male hair loss cases can be inherited hormone initiated conditions. Men who suffer from hair loss actually inherit a certain sensitivity to the hormonal reactions that lead to male hair loss.

The pattern of hair loss begins when the male hormone testosterone comes into contact with the enzyme 5-alpha reductase. Testosterone is then converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT). It is DHT that gets into hair follicles and binds with receptors. It will then begin to hamper the function of hair follicles, causing them to shrink and preventing them from producing new healthy hair strands.

Common Treatments

So far, the most effective kind of treatment for hair loss are surgical procedures. A surgeon may have to move some hair strands from a well covered area to the bald spot. Other procedures include reducing the bald scalp area or increasing the area of the scalp which still has hair. Depending on the kind of surgery you may have to undergo, your doctor may have to look into your suitability as a surgery candidate. Factors that may affect your suitability for male hair loss surgery include your age, type of hair and hair color.

Another option would be to take medications. A popular kind of medication blocks DHT or 5-alpha reductase. As some users would point out though, some medications may produce side effects and hair growth may not be so quick. The quality of hair growth is also not always as desired.

Alternative Treatment

The third alternative would be to take supplements. Men can now take natural, herbal supplements to promote hair growth. Natural products are a good choice if you do not want to spend too much on surgery or if you do not want to experience the side effects of medication. A lot of these natural products also function as DHT and enzyme blockers, thus effectively reducing male hair loss. Natural ingredients such as saw palmetto have been known as effective blockers. Another plus factor to natural supplementation is that you also get a lot of nourishment for your scalp and hair.

Anyone can prevent or cure male hair loss. It’s just a matter of looking for the right product.

People with fine hair have various problems styling it. There are tips to be given about styling your fine hair and some of them work better for men, whilst others do so for women. Some recent developments in the field however, provide a powerful tool for solving this problem in both genders.

Very commonly men with thinning and fine hair cut it short and use the comb over method, or perm and color it to achieve some body to it.

With women, choices of styling are more varied and allow for greater imagination when playing around with your hair style. These are useful tips for both genders.

1. Perming it.

With thin and fine hair, getting a perm could be just the thing for you. Achieving a few curls could get you the thicker looking hair you’ve been striving for. Just be sure to familiarise your stylist with the problem of your fine hair, so that they can adjust the strength of your perm accordingly. A gentler one would still do the job.

2. Highlights.

Your hair shaft instantly gets thicker with the hair dye. Therefore getting highlights immediately makes your hair to appear thicker and fuller, giving you a better chance of choosing a hair style for your fine hair, that will compliment its natural shape. Of course you should be cautious with different hair dyes’ strengths and therefore choose a mild and kinder to your hair version. It is best to consult with your stylist beforehand. I recommend perming first and then adding some color respectively.

3. Use microfibers.

The latest and most effective hair styling solution for fine hair is sprinkling microfibers on. It works on the principle of adding mascara to your eye lashes. Women know the effect of plumping up even the tiniest hairs well, but this is something completely revolutionary for men. It’s a simple cosmetic step, which could make all the difference. It does not take long to apply and unlike perming and colouring your hair, applying microfibers does not impose even the slightest risk of damaging your fine hair. It’s completely harmless.

The bad news is microfibers would not work on your completely bald patches as they need hair, however tiny, to attach to.

Taking medications or undergoing a hair transplant are two common options for people suffering from hair loss. Taking herbal hair loss remedy is also another alternative to treating hair loss. Before you choose the alternative option, though, here are some important facts you should know about herbal solutions to hair loss.

Fact #1: They can help with hair loss.

Until now, there is still much controversy regarding the ability of herbs to cure hair loss. It is a fact that a lot of them show great potential for providing the right solution to hair loss. Saw palmetto is one of the herbs that has been studied and shown to be beneficial for men. Although this herb was originally researched for prostate health, it has been observed to help reduce hair loss in men. Other herbs that have been found beneficial are horsetail, Siberian ginseng and nettle root.

Fact #2: An herbal hair loss remedy has fewer side effects.

An herbal hair loss remedy contains ingredients that come from nature itself. These ingredients promote the body’s own ability to regenerate itself. Herbs therefore help get rid of the problem and not just the symptoms. It is these traits of herbs that make them attractive to consumers. Unlike a lot of synthetic drugs, an herbal hair loss remedy provides fewer risks of side effects and complications. Herbs are among the safest and most non-invasive solutions to hair loss.

Fact #3: They are not for everyone.

Even though herbs are generally safe to use, not all of them can be safely used by everyone. Saw palmetto as an herbal hair loss remedy for example is specifically indicated for men only. It may not be safe for women, especially those who plan to get pregnant, to take this herb. Common sense would also tell you that some individuals may have rare allergic reactions to some substances including herbs. You should immediately discontinue the use of any herbal hair loss remedy if you experience severe itching, redness and other negative reactions.

Fact #4: An herbal hair loss remedy is more than just a blocker.

Most cases of hair loss are caused by genes and the hormone DHT. Medicines and herbs function in the same way to prevent this type of hair loss. They block DHT before it can shrink the hair follicles. An herbal hair loss remedy however has an edge over its medicine counterpart. Herbs are more than just blockers, they are also sources of nourishment for the hair and scalp. Nettle root for example is a powerhouse herb filled with vitamins and minerals. Taking herbs for hair loss is a great way to prevent hair loss due to nutrient deficiency.

Fact #5: They work best when taken in supplements.

Using an herbal hair loss remedy is still a better choice over taking herbs in their raw form. Taking herbs in product form will ensure that you are taking just the right amount of herbs for your condition. Most products also do not just contain one kind of herb but a carefully measured and blended variety of them. There is no danger that you will take too little or too much.
