Question by why_is_skyblue_waterwet: is there anything other than male pattern baldness that causes hair loss?
I’m losing my hair like crazy in the front of my head. I want to go see the doctor, but if all he tells me is that you’re genetically predisposed to losing your hair, I think I’ll just save my money because I don’t have insurance. Is there any other disease or vitamin deficiency or something that may cause hair loss? HELP!!!

Question by Lisha: Thyroid disorders and hair loss. What is common and does anything help?
I was diagnosed with Graves disease early this year and underwent the radiation treatment for the disease. Now that they are adjusting my medicine I am finding that my hair is falling out a lot. They say that there are certain shampoos out there that help. Does anyone have any advice to prevent the hairloss?
Best answer:
Answer by Violet Pearl Monitor your iron levels. Thyroid can cause anemia or iron deficiency, which also results in hair loss. Eat plenty of protein, enough for your current body weight since hair and skin is made of protein. A good hair salon or beauty supply can suggest a shampoo– there are “anti-aging” shampoos that protect and strengthen the follicle.

Question by pms247: Is there anything besides minoxidil for female hair loss?
There has to be something better than minoxidil for female hair thinning and loss. This problem seems to get brushed off by alot of doctors when the question of hair loss comes from a female.

Answer by Renate Female hair loss is diet, genetic, hormonal and/or stress related
If you are not getting enough protein you can lose hair.
Thyroid problems often cause hair loss. I have been on thyroid medication for 30 years but because I was eating too many soy products – they were blocking the thyroid in my body and also caused my hair to fall out. I quit soy and 3 months later my hair is starting to come back.
Vegetarians often lose their hair.
Go to the doctor and see if you can determine the cause of hair loss then take steps to try to prevent the problem
Food manufacturers are now putting soy in everything. I had to quit the Nutrisystem diet because it almost made me bald and they admitted to me every bite of their food contains soy.
I am just doing a simple experiment for myself and others who share the same fate with me on hair thining. I will continue to use saw palmetto extract and see the results after a year. Todays date is Sep, 23rd 2009 Alternative to expensive Propecia, and hair transplants. Plus I do not want to possibly get side effects from finasteride. I am not trying to sell advertise for anyone. Just want to help meyself out and others to find a safe solution to our problem. Oh yeah!..I’m videoing at mirrow in bathroom. Thanks for looking!
