Question by Casey86: what causes hair loss in cats?
There are a lot of stray cats in my neighborhood and there is one particular long haired black cat. I hadn’t seen him about in a few months but seen him the other day and he has really bad hair loss but just on his abdomen and back. he has hair on is legs, rear and head but none around his middle. I’m really worried about him and wish I could catch him to take him to the vet.Any ideas on what has caused such bad loss of hair?

He might have gotten in a fight with a wild animal, that is very likely considering its a stray cat.

Question by Linda K: What causes hair loss in cats?
I have two 10 year old cats They are sisters. One of them seems to be losing her hair on her rear end and on her lower sides. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might cause this? They both eat the same and go outside together.
Thanks for any information you can give me.
Neither one of them scratch or bite themselves very much so I do not think it is fleas. When they are in they lay in my lap and no not hardly move till I get up.They are still very active and sometimes play like kittens.

Could be a rash or some other skin condition which is either causing direct hair loss, or which has caused the cat to over groom the area pulling the hair out. This is a question for a vet.

What do you think? Answer below!

It’s 1984, and some strange-looking Sphinx Cats are making their debut at a Paris cat show.

Question by Anastasia: Why do some cats have bald spots above their eyes?
I’ve noticed that some cats have these and some don’t. My kitten sally has long fur and very prominent “bald spots”. I was thinking that’s where some of their scent glands are, but then why do some cats have them and some don’t?

Actually… they *all* do to some degree or another. That’s just the way they are made!

Question by Eva: Does Revolution for cats cause hair loss?
I don’t mean hair loss just at the application site; I mean a general thinning. I brought my cat to the vet but no parasites were found and blood work showed that her kidneys etc were fine. Then I mentioned applying Revolution and the vet said that that might be the cause. Has anyone experienced this before?? How long does it last?

Best answer:

Answer by Connie S
it is not a standard reaction, but every cat is different.

Since it isn’t a typical thing, it will be hard to tell you for certain how long it will last. However revolution is a monthly product, so after about four weeks it will have disappated from the kitty’s system. Will the hair loss stop before that ? could. I would definately be back at the vets if it were my cats and a) any other symptoms appeared or b) if it didnt stop after the month was up.
