Question by Pebbles: Is there a gene that makes a cancer patient undergoing chemo or radiology immune to hair loss?
I heard from a friend of mine that there’s a gene that makes one immune to the loss of hair while undergoing chemo or radiology. Is she full of crap or is this the real deal?

Answer by SuperVibrationalEscrow Let’s not say she’s full of crap, just misinformed. Not everyone loses hair during chem or radiation.. it has to do with dosage and type of medication, not genes. There is no one who is immune to hair loss during radiation if the dosage is high enough for a long enough period of time. Both of my parents had chemo, neither lost hair. My mom had radiation, but only 3 treatments, she didnt lose much hair at all. But again, it isn’t genes that make the difference. They told us she wouldn’t lose much hair because of the type of treatment.

If someome has chemo treatments, is there an average amount of time when they will start to lose their hair? Like, is it after the very first treatment or after a few? Of course, I know not everyone loes their hair during chemo, but I was wondering how long it would take IF they were going to lose their hair for the loss to begin.
