Question by HelpMe: girls, some advice please?
Ok, I’m a 25 year old male (jeez 26 next week!). My hair has started to thin/recede quite a bit around the temples. I’m worried about the impact it’s going to have on my dating chances. So I’ve started researching hair loss treatments; the ones you apply to your hair to prevent further thinning/promote some regrowth. But before I do so, I want to hear what you have to say. If I went bald, I’d never get implants. I wouldn’t risk it given the frequently ridiculous outcomes in my opinion. But before I start using these products (and potentially doing greater damage who knows), I want to hear what you have to say. My facial features resemble more like a Nicolas Cage/Ed Norton which is also why I’m worried since I don’t have that square-jawed, small-nosed kind of look (which makes bald not so bad). I mean I’ve had good interaction with girls thus far in my life, which results strongly from my personality/sense of humor, but I have to say that I don’t think a lot of these women would have given me a chance if it weren’t for my looks (which are prob above average but nothing special). What say you?

Good luck !

Question by :) yay for yahoo!: Hair experts: Hair loss in teen girls solutions? It’s a long one but I appreciate your help!?
Hey. I’ve asked this before but I don’t want to give up. I’m just going to give you all the facts:
I’m a 17 year old girl and have noticed that my hair has really thinned over the past few years.
My hair used to be nice and thick and now I can see a LOT of my scalp.
My dad is pretty much bald, my mom’s hair is kind of thin but thicker than mine, and my grandma on my dad’s side is pretty much bald also.
I’m really embarassed by this and don’t really want to talk to my mom about it. It just makes me sad.
I’ve done some research on home remedies on regrowing hair, but I’ve also read a lot that you can’t really “regrow” your hair follicles or whatever.
Anyway, I’ve put oil in my hair, as well as a raw egg, but I’ve only done both once because I don’t really know what I’m supposed to do. Has anyone tried this? Are you supposed to do it often?
Ladies, you know how important our hair is for our image. I don’t really have a high self esteem, but my hair used to be really thick and it was something that I liked about myself. Now I don’t want to wear it down because you can see so much of my scalp.
Keep in mind that I’m 17 and so life is already tough and confusing. (Typical teen behaviour, I know things could be worse, but you can probably see where I’m coming from. No teen wants to suffer from hair loss so early when they’re already feeling awkward. Especially teen girls).
I know there are ways to disguise it, like short cuts with lots of layers, but short isn’t really a look that works for me.
Right now my hair is sort of long with no layers. It’s sort of curly and is pretty frizzy which makes it so much better.
I want to dye it darker, but that will probably make it’s thin-ness even more noticible, right? If you can see my scalp?
Are there any suggestions you have for me. Besides medications. I don’t really want to talk to my mom about it right now. It’s too embarassing.

I’ve also heard before that your hair changes every 7 years or something. Is that true? Because I noticed my hair started to thin a few years ago. Is there any hope that it will be thick again? I don’t want to get my hopes up too much though because of my grandma and heredity and all.

I don’t have a terrible diet or anything. I’m not the most super healthy person, but I don’t think it’s my diet causing this. Also, I get really stressed during the school year, but it’s not that bad.
I’m not really interested in anything to make my hair LOOK thicker, like shampoos and mousse and sprays. I want to actually grow more hair.

Thanks so much! You have no idea how much I appreciate this!

Sorry if I sound like a whiny teenager who complains too much, but this is something that I’m really struggling with.

Question by CoolChick91: Is it common for girls with Rett Syndrome to get bald spots?
My sister suffers from Rett Syndrome, a neurological disorder seen almost exclusively in females. She has a bald patch in her hair. It can be covered up. However, lately it has been getting worse. I am very concerned. It has been checked at the doctor and he didn’t have much to say. Is there a conncection between Rett Syndrome and bald spots? Also, is there anything we can do to treat this?

Answer by heimikkat
Does she pull at her hair, or is she non mobile & when she sleeps , sleeps on the side of her head with the bald patch?

Is she still able to self or be mouth feed? is she getting the recommended daily calorie intake?

sorry about your sister, I do believe they will find a cure very soon =) & have you heard about the www.rsrt.org. where people can sponsor a drug already approved to see if it will help Rett Syndrome Patients. I have hope in this! They just discovered that a drug manufactured for Lukemia patients has had the potential of decreasing & in some cases reversing sympotms in MS in people
I know its a little off topic(sorry) but it gives me hope that something like this will happen for Retts too: here is the article if you are interested
