Question by Sarah: How long should it take for switching dog food to stop hair loss due to allergies?
So my dog has lost a disturbing amount of hair. We took him to the vet and she said it looked like mange but the blood work came back negative. Then the vet said it was most likely an allergy to poultry. We switched to dog food with no poultry but it’s been about two months and there is still no improvement. Should I wait longer to see improvement or insist that my vet send the blood work to be re-tested?

Poultry? Really? I’m surprised that a veterinarian did not suggest a corn, wheat, or soy allergy first. Switch to a dog food that does not contain corn, wheat, or soy and see if she improves. Allergy symptoms should subside within a week.

Corn is the second most common allergy in dogs.

Question by :) yay for yahoo!: Hair experts: Hair loss in teen girls solutions? It’s a long one but I appreciate your help!?
Hey. I’ve asked this before but I don’t want to give up. I’m just going to give you all the facts:
I’m a 17 year old girl and have noticed that my hair has really thinned over the past few years.
My hair used to be nice and thick and now I can see a LOT of my scalp.
My dad is pretty much bald, my mom’s hair is kind of thin but thicker than mine, and my grandma on my dad’s side is pretty much bald also.
I’m really embarassed by this and don’t really want to talk to my mom about it. It just makes me sad.
I’ve done some research on home remedies on regrowing hair, but I’ve also read a lot that you can’t really “regrow” your hair follicles or whatever.
Anyway, I’ve put oil in my hair, as well as a raw egg, but I’ve only done both once because I don’t really know what I’m supposed to do. Has anyone tried this? Are you supposed to do it often?
Ladies, you know how important our hair is for our image. I don’t really have a high self esteem, but my hair used to be really thick and it was something that I liked about myself. Now I don’t want to wear it down because you can see so much of my scalp.
Keep in mind that I’m 17 and so life is already tough and confusing. (Typical teen behaviour, I know things could be worse, but you can probably see where I’m coming from. No teen wants to suffer from hair loss so early when they’re already feeling awkward. Especially teen girls).
I know there are ways to disguise it, like short cuts with lots of layers, but short isn’t really a look that works for me.
Right now my hair is sort of long with no layers. It’s sort of curly and is pretty frizzy which makes it so much better.
I want to dye it darker, but that will probably make it’s thin-ness even more noticible, right? If you can see my scalp?
Are there any suggestions you have for me. Besides medications. I don’t really want to talk to my mom about it right now. It’s too embarassing.

I’ve also heard before that your hair changes every 7 years or something. Is that true? Because I noticed my hair started to thin a few years ago. Is there any hope that it will be thick again? I don’t want to get my hopes up too much though because of my grandma and heredity and all.

I don’t have a terrible diet or anything. I’m not the most super healthy person, but I don’t think it’s my diet causing this. Also, I get really stressed during the school year, but it’s not that bad.
I’m not really interested in anything to make my hair LOOK thicker, like shampoos and mousse and sprays. I want to actually grow more hair.

Thanks so much! You have no idea how much I appreciate this!

Sorry if I sound like a whiny teenager who complains too much, but this is something that I’m really struggling with.

Hmmm… perhaps you should look into seeing a dermatologist first, and then consulting a doctor if your hair loss is that sever as it may be a sign that there may be some underlying health problems .

If all goes well, or you’d just rather not seek a doctor’s advice (although you should), I’d say give the saw palmetto at least a month to a month in a half. The results may not be tremendous, but you should see some type of progress if its working. If not, here are some other growth aids you should look into:

Mega-tek
Mane-Tail-Groom
Castor oil
Boundless Tresses
Surge Plus 14

You should also look into your hair practices. Are you putting to much stress on your hair (i.e tight ponytails or braids), are you flat ironing or blow drying too often? Are you drinking plenty of water, exercising regularly? A healthy body means healthy hair! I hope some of these tips are helpful. Good Luck!

Question by Clark Lewis: How long does it typically take for a hairline to recede and someone to go bald? Or does it always differ?
Just wondering how long it takes typically for a hairline to recede and someone to go bald? Or does it always differ? Thanks in advance.

Answer by wizard of the East
It always differs and there r factors that affect it like :
1 extreme cold and if u expose your scalp and hairs the hairs start falling
2 extreme heat and sweating, and exposure to such situation
3 improper care, like not washing the hair daily and shampooing it at least once a week
4 improper diet, lack of calcium, vitamins and minerals in diet
5 certain illnesses cause fast hair loss.

So, I needed a haircut. I didn’t want to spend money. I had a shaver. I f***ked my head up. Now, answer me this: How long would I have to wait until my hair grows back to like a dark caesar if its completely bald from shaving? I’m a guy by the way.
