Question by M: How can I prevent male hair loss?
By male hair loss I do not mean going bald as I am far from going bald. I have been growing my hair out for a year now and it’s probably 6 to 7 inches long now. I have alot of hair and it’s also thick so my hair isn’t thinning either. My problem is every time I shower, I lose hair. This leaves me with alot of short hairs so when I put my hair back it looks “frizzy”(I believe it’s this word). I also think this is slowing my hair growth as alot of my hair is falling out and then growing out again.
My mom also has thick hair like mine and loses alot when she showers but her hair is not as “frizzy” as mine. Maybe it’s because she has alot longer hair to put in a ponytail, so it’s possible I just can’t see it.
Is there something I can do to prevent this? Maybe make my scalp stronger or roots stronger, etc.

Everyone loses hair, every day … but when the hair is longer, you notice those hairs in the shower because they don’t just wash down the drain like they did when they were short!
Ths “short hairs” you’re noticing are new hairs … they’re the hairs that grow in to replace the hairs you’ve shed (lost). No, this isn’t slowing the growth of your hair … it just seems that way because your hair is longer, so now you’ve got hairs in all stages of growth, all over your head! If your hair was allover short, you’d never notice this.
It has to do with the texture of your hair, too … some hair-types and textures are just more prone to looking frizzy or fuzzy. And if your hair is dry, it’s more likely to break and split … also contributing to a frizzball appearance.
Nothing you can do to prevent it … what you CAN do is find products that will help to minimize the appearance of frizz … John Freda’s “Frizz Ease” line, especially the serum, is a good one …. Paul Mitchell’s “Super Skinny” products are also great for taming down wayward hairs. If you don’t know what to try or buy, ask a hairdresser to recommend a product or product-line for your hair-type.
