Question by pdddd: If spironolactone is used to treat hair loss then why did my doctor prescribe it to me?
I have increased testosterone levels and have hair growth on my face (like on the sides, nothing compared to a man growing a beard) but obviously more hair than a woman should have. If spironolactone is used for hair loss treatment, why would my doctor prescribe it to help stop the extra hair growth…? yes, i know ask my doctor but clearly at midnight i cannot call my doctor and ask

Answer by John de Witt
Spironolactone is a potassium-sparing diuretic occasionally used to treat hirsutism but not hair loss. Your doctor apparently doesn’t do as good a job as you at getting things backwards.

Question by Chen Ting: How to Treat Alopecia Hair Loss?

Best answer:

Answer by Flandrina Luv
Treatment should be directed on the basic disease. In case of favorable outcome hair are restored and regrown in due course.

Treatment of seborrheic alopecia should be preventive. In these purposes besides bracing therapies and correction of metabolic processes intensive topical treatment is used. Complex treatment can warn or suspend loss of hair. Such therapy is carried out by dermatologists and cosmeticians.

Minoxidil has been used to promote hair growth and has shown cosmetically acceptable results in 30% of cases. Minoxidil does not stop the disease process so stopping applications after hair has started to grow back may cause the hair to fall out again.
